Alfred Alves, Jr., 84 of Wayne and formerly of Belleville, passed away on Thursday May 7, 2020. Born in Newark, he was the son of the late Alfred M. and Carmella (Carlucci) Alves. Mr. Alves lived in Belleville before coming to Wayne 8 years ago. He owed Park Gulf gas station in Newark for 4 years and then Fred’s Sunoco in Bloomfield for 31 years before retiring 20 years ago. He served in the New Jersey National Guard and was a graduate of Bloomfield Tech. Fred was also a member of Belleville Seniors Club and the Bocce Club. He loved music and played the accordion with a musical group called The 4 Counts. The band remained together for 30 years.
Predeceased by his wife, Mary Lou (Del Bagno) Alves, he is survived by his son Rick Alves and wife, Stefania, his daughter, Lisa Canella and her husband, John and his grandchildren, Rick Alves, Jr., John Jay Canella, Jr. and Gianna Marie Canella, and his nieces and nephews. He also leaves his companion, Judy Adivari and was the dear brother of Frank Alves and his wife, Clare and the late Joseph Alves and wife, Lucille.
Services for Fred and burial at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield will be private.
