Obituary for Alice M. Lynch

Navy veteran of World War II, past Grand Marshal of Nutley Memorial Day Parade
Alice M. Lynch of Nutley, passed away on Sunday December 3, 2017 at her home. Born in Newark, she was the daughter of the late John and Alice (Paige) Owens. Mrs. Lynch was a graduate of Good Counsel High School in Newark, the Jersey City Medical Center School of Nursing and was a proud U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Alice attained the rank of Lieutenant and was qualified as a flight nurse with VRE-1 (Naval Air Transport Service) serving in the Pacific Theatre. Mrs. Lynch was the first woman Grand Marshall of the Nutley Memorial Day Parade and was named Nutley Veteran of the Year. She was also a member of the St. Mary’s Altar Rosary Society, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Gratia, the Nocturnal Adoration Society and the Nutley Irish American Club.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, William Lynch. She is survived by her sons, William Lynch, Jr. and his wife, Donna, John J. Lynch and Robert M. Lynch. She also leaves her grandsons, Craig and Jason.
Funeral from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St. Nutley on Saturday December 9 at 8 am.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Nutley at 9 am followed by burial at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Montclair.
Visiting will be at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8 pm.
