Obituary for Anne Conway (Stellatella)

Anne Conway, 92, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2020. She was born September 13, 1927 in Nutley to the late Louis and Grace (Riefolo) Stellatella, who came to America from Barletta, Bari, Italy. She attended Nutley High School and played the glockenspiel in the band. She was employed at Bamberger’s and Coats & Clark where she met her future husband, John.

They married in 1961, and they raised three children. She later joined ADP, where she worked until retirement in 1994, when she moved to Lakewood NJ. She learned to play the piano at a very young age. She shared her music her entire life. Always active, Anne played the organ at Holy Family Church in Nutley for many years and was the leader of their Christian Youth Organization. She went on to play bilingual services at several other Catholic churches in Clifton, Jersey City, and Union City into her late 80s.

Her life was one of service. She was a music booster for Nutley Marching Band and Republican Committee chair in Nutley. In her retirement, she moved to Leisure Village in Lakewood where she started an Italian-American club, which had over 200 members, and also led and organized the Music Lovers Club and the Village-Aires, a choral group of volunteers that performed many musical programs at LV clubs and local nursing homes.

Anne is survived by her three children John and his wife Carolyn of Gainesville, VA; Paul and his wife Jan of Bradenton, FL; and Gracia and her husband Mike Kenny of Franklin NJ; her grandchildren, Chris Conway, Katie (Sliwowski) and her husband, Stuart; step-grandson Matt Kleinrock and his wife Taylor, 2 step-great grandchildren; sister-in-law Antoinette Stellatella; as well as several nieces and nephews. Anne was preceded in death by her husband John, her sister Grace DeLibero, and her brother Michael Stellatella.

Anne had life-long friends she always made a point to stay connected to. Many of them we call Aunt. She thrived on being with people and always made the effort to spend time with them.

We will be celebrating her life on Thursday, August 27. There will be a viewing at 9-11am at S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre Street, Nutley, NJ (info@swbrownandson.com) a service following at 1130 am at Holy Family Church in Nutley, followed by burial at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Montclair.
