Obituary for Anthony J. Nigro

Loving Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather

Anthony J. Nigro, 95, lifelong resident of Nutley, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023. Born and raised in Nutley, NJ, Anthony was the son of the late Antonio and Filomena (Tarantino) Nigro.

He was a true gentleman and faithful servant of the Lord. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, brother and uncle to a large extended family.
His family and friends will always remember his kindness and compassion and he left his family with many cherished memories. He was a lifelong member of Holy Family Church since his Italian parents immigrated here in 1920’s. He was honored by the parish for his Stewardship. He was a dedicated member of the Old Guard of Nutley, NJ Chapter 7, as well as member of Holy Name Society of Holy Family Church.

Anthony was asked to serve in World War II, prior to completing his last year of high school. He completed high school following his discharge, along with higher education. He was energetic and resourceful, and his leisure activities included saxophone, golf and bowling. He was a Physical Distribution Manager, responsible for the startup of several large distribution centers during his career, and a contributing life-member of Material Handling Society NJ.

Anthony is survived by his beloved wife Agnes (Parillo) Nigro, his children Anthony L. Nigro, Linda Latushko and her husband Paul, and Anna Marie DeRites and her husband Bruce, 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters Louis Nigro, Modestino Nigro, Virginia Salvetta, Annie Dimichino, Angelina Bellarosa, Stella Belli, Louise Cassera, Sarah Scrudato, Emaline Palumbo and daughter-in-law Marissa Nigro.

Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Friday, April 14th from 2pm – 4pm and from 6pm – 8pm. The funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday April 15th at 9:30am at Holy Family Church, Nutley. The entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleum, North Arlington.
