Obituary for Anthony Michael Slonim

Anthony Michael Slonim, devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather passed into eternal life on April 14, 2020 at the age of 79. He was born in Newark, NJ to Daniel and Antoinette (Rullis) Slonim. He was a 1958 graduate of Barringer High School and a 1971 graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University. He moved to Belleville in 1965 with his wife, Adelaide (Manara) Slonim where they raised their family and resided for more than 25 years.
After high school, Tony served in the Coast Guard. In the early 1960s, he served the city of Newark as both a fireman and police officer, however, most of his professional career was spent as a self-employed men's clothier. He was the proud owner of The Red Barn stores in various malls throughout northern NJ, but his greatest professional accomplishment was his undertaking of multiple men's shops in the hotel-casinos of Atlantic City in the 1980s. As a true entrepreneur, he later ventured to hold countless other positions including travel agent and restaurateur.
Anyone who knew Tony would describe him as extraordinary and larger than life. He was a devoted, generous, resilient, and invincible man. He loved life to the fullest and lived his life with no regrets. Family meant everything to him.
His legacy will be carried on by his wife Adelaide of 57 years, his son, Dr. Anthony Slonim and wife, Sheila, daughter Donna Giuliano and husband, Charlie and his two brothers, Daniel and Robert Slonim. He was incredibly proud of his five grandchildren, Michael, Samantha, Bill, Anthony, and Nicholas and his great granddaughter, Emery Grace.

A private burial will take place on Monday, April 20, 2020 and a "Celebration of his Life" with a Catholic service will be planned in the future for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saint Catherine of Siena Parish in Cedar Grove, NJ in his name.
