Obituary for Arlene A. Baldino (Woeckener)

Arlene A. Baldino (Woeckener), a woman of vast intellect, charm, and wit, passed from this world on Monday, May 16th, 2022. Born to an Irish mother and a German father on July 11, 1941, Arlene was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, and a dear friend to many. Arlene graduated from Montclair State University in 1962 and began her career teaching French at Nutley High School. An academic that was ever eager for new experiences, her life found her on many journeys across Europe and the States, however, she ultimately returned to Nutley in 1970, where a year later she wed the love of her life, her husband of 51 years, James Baldino. The couple would go on to raise two wonderful daughters: Teresa Zaleski and Catherine Luzzi, who would then give them five grandchildren: Stephanie, Rachel, and Patrick Zaleski, and Luke and Jack Luzzi. Arlene pursued education as both a student and a teacher, earning her Master’s Degree from William Paterson University in 1994. Her fascination with the French language, beginning with a year spent in France as a college student, would have her teaching the language to students for 42 years before her retirement from the Nutley school system in 2005. Even after retirement, Arlene was ever productive with her time – singing in two choirs, swimming at the YMCA, learning Tai Chi, keeping up with her many friends from all over the world, publishing a book, and, of course, giving as much love as she could to her canine companions. Arlene loved to cook and entertain; her home was always open to friends and family. From her wicked sense of humor to her wonderful, inviting presence, Arlene, you will never be forgotten.
