Obituary for Arlene P. Carey (Pelaia)

Alrene P. Carey

Beloved wife, mother, and Nana, Arlene Pelaia Carey, of Nutley, passed away at age 72 on April 18, 2020. She was born on June 21, 1947 to Joseph and Emily Pelaia in Newark, NJ.
An only child, Arlene graduated with honors from Nutley High School in 1965, and went on to William Paterson, where she graduated in 1969 with her degree in Elementary Education. She began working for the Nutley School system immediately after, where she had a long and distinguished career until her retirement in 2007. She loved all of her students, and always remembered their names when she saw them around town in the future, even teaching many of her first students’ children. Arlene also collected dolls, eventually building her own successful business selling dolls and other collectibles.
Arlene is survived by her loving spouse of 23 years, John Carey, and her two children and their spouses, Vincent Nardiello and Joy, and Jillian Zarr and Chris. Being a nana was her absolute favorite thing in life, and she is survived by her grandchildren Alexander, Benjamin, Lucia and Stella. She was also lucky enough to be grandparent to her two stepsons’ children, Avery, Dylan, Alexandra and Ryan. She leaves many friends who will sadly miss her.

A graveside committal service will be held for Arlene at 10:30 am Wednesday October 14 at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield
