Obituary for Arlene D. Giaimo

Loving Daughter, Sister, Aunt, and Great-Aunt

Arlene Denise Giaimo, daughter of the late Raymond T. and Eleanor A. Giaimo, succumbed to the effects of Alzheimer’s on June 1, 2023, at Morristown Post Acute Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born on May 31, 1960, in Belleville, NJ, she grew up with her two big sisters, Patrice (Giaimo) Evans (Vince) and Beverly (Giaimo) Table (Ken), as well as younger sister, Sharon (Giaimo) Longo (Mark). She was the beloved aunt to Patrice’s children, Jennifer Mayes, Michael Mayes (Amanda), and Kathy (Mayes) Laboe (Patrick); Beverly’s children, the late Christine (Thorsen) Fritz and (Tony), Shaun Thorsen (Megan), and the late April (Thorsen) Turkmen (Deniz); and Sharon’s children, Jessica (Longo) Mooney (Patrick), Kevin Longo, and Brian Longo. Her great nieces and nephews include Kathy’s children, Jacob and Ellie; The late Christine’s children, Victoria and Alyssa, the late April’s daughter, Emily; and Jessica’s children, Charlotte and Owen.

Arlene was a bright light, and despite having Down’s Syndrome, she was able to read her Bible and show her love of music by naming a song and the group or singer while also memorizing and singing all the words. She loved dancing and was the first one on the dance floor at every party or event. She lit up when she greeted others, and their joy was also evident in the meeting.

Alzheimer’s may have dimmed her star, but we know she is in Heaven with loved ones who have passed, as well as with her beloved Jesus. She can finally enjoy an existence without any disability, and she is dancing and praising God with uplifted hands and a radiant smile.

A wake will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2023, from 2 – 4pm at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St., Nutley, NJ. The funeral will be at 9am on Monday, June 5th from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home. The funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am at St. Mary’s Church, 17 Monsignor Owens Pl, Nutley, NJ. The interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

The family asks, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Continuum Hospice Foundation or toward Alzheimer’s research.

"If attending the wake or funeral, please wear something colorful in honor of the bright light that Arlene was."
