Obituary for Catherina Blauvelt (IL Grande)

Catherina Blauvelt, 71 of Belleville, passed away on Friday December 27, 2019 at her home. Born in Barletta, Bari, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Alessandro and Nunzia (Capacchione) IL Grande. Catherina emigrated from Italy in 1959. She lived in Nutley before coming to Belleville in 1978, where she had resided for the past 41 years. She graduated from Bloomfield College and was a Spanish teacher for many years with the Newark School System. She changed careers and was employed as an account controller with Owens Corning Corp. in Kearny before retiring. Catherina became an expert cross stitch needlepoint artist. Her passion was that her beloved family and friends all received one of her masterpieces.

Catherina is survived by her beloved husband, Bernard C. Blauvelt, Sr., her son, Bernard C. Blauvelt, Jr., her daughter, Nancy Blauvelt, her granddaughter Rina M. Blauvelt. She was predeceased by her son, Alexander Blauvelt and her sister, Rita IL Grande. She also leaves her siblings, Vincent IL Grande and wife, Marianne, Angela Sicoli and husband, Michael, Maria Kish and husband, Ed, Alexander IL Grande and wife, Carolyn, Roger IL Grande and wife, Diane and her brother-in-law, Richard S. Blauvelt and his companion, Anthony.

Funeral from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St. Nutley on Monday December 30 at 9:30 am.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church, Nutley at 10:30 followed by interment at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-5 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Belleville Fire Department.
