Obituary for Charles J. Pucci

Charles J. Pucci, 99 of Nutley, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022. He was the son of the late Nicola and Margaret Pucci, and the last of his twelve siblings to pass. Born and raised in Nutley, he lived most of his adult life (including the last 60 years) in Nutley. Mr. Pucci was a World War II Navy Veteran who served abroad the USS Carter, a destroyer escort which sank a U-boat in 1945 and captured two enemy submarines. He and his shipmates received a Battle Star for Distinguished Service. Upon return from the Service, he worked as an Inspector for Walter Kidde for 35+ years.

One of Charlie’s greatest joys in life was singing. This began at an early age when he would harmonize with his brothers. Later, he would coax family and friends to join in. His family was his world. In his later years, he was often front and center at his grandchildren’s recitals, plays, and athletic competitions.

Charlie could often be found singing at the Nutley Seniors Social Club and the American Legion, and was also an active member of the Nutley Old Guard, The Third Half Club, and the VFW. Charlie was predeceased by his beloved wife of 72 years, Jennie, who died in 2020. He is survived by his children, Thomas Pucci and wife, Michele, Russell Pucci and wife, Margaret, Fred Pucci and wife, Sharon, and Beverly Vollaro and husband, Dave. He also leaves his 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

The family will be receiving those wishing to pay their respects at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St. Nutley on Wednesday, March 2nd from 4-8 pm.
