Obituary for Christine Demos

“known to all as Nana”
Christine Demos, 94 of Bloomfield, N.J passed away on Friday June 1, 2017.
Christine ‘Nana’ Demos was born in New York, NY, the daugher of the late Valsamis & Smasagda (Vourlis) Mamoukaris and raised in Greece with her siblings Nick Maris and Helen Theoharis.
She was an independent, career-driven woman at a time when it was extremely uncommon for women to bridge the gender gap. She started working for NATO and eventually moved back to the US where she paid her way through college becoming a successful accountant. Her strong work ethic was one of her defining qualities. Christine retired at 75, but had she known that she’d live until almost 95, she would have probably worked another 15 years.
In addition to being a loving mother and grandmother, she was also a talented artist and seamstress. But what many people will remember her for was her tasty, trademark cooking.
She will be sorely missed by her daughter, Helga Sokolovsky and her granddaughter Sabrina Sokolovsky.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:30am from S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30a.m at the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George in Clifton, N.J
The interment eill follow at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield, NJ.
Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8pm.
