Claudia Romero, 94 of Belleville, passed away on Sunday March 21, 2021 at her home. Born in Cambados, Pontevedra she was the daughter of the late Laureano Rey and Angustias Serantes. Mrs. Romero emigrated from Spain to Argentina and then came to U.S. in 1963, finally coming to Belleville in 1967. She was a seamstress for many years before retiring and was a devoted wife and loving mother grandmother, and great grandmother. Claudia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Antonio Romero. She is survived by her daughters, Rosario Romero Rey, Raquel Romero and her husband, Norman Hannewald, her grandchildren, Claudia Mercado and her fiancée Angel, William Mercado and his wife Jen, and Linus Hannewald and her great grandchildren, Gabriel, Logan and Gavin Mercado. Claudia was also the dear sister of the late Clementina, Marina, Laureano and Carmen, and mother-in-law of the late Orlando Mercado.

Visitors will be received at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St. Nutley on Thursday, March 25, from 4-7 PM, and live streamed on YouTube.com on the S.W. Brown & Son Channel (Claudia Romero Service)

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Church, Belleville at 10 am on Friday followed by entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to a charity of your choice.
