Obituary for Daniel L Marese

Loving Husband, Father, Uncle, Grandfather and Great Grandfather

Daniel L. Marese, age 92 of Nutley, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019. A lifelong resident of Nutley, Daniel was the son of the late Donato & Bridget (Diasi) Marese. He retired as a building supervisor for Dow Chemical Corp. in Clifton, previously Essex Chemical, for 40 years. Dan was a WWII Army Air Corps veteran, receiving the Distinguish Service Medal. He was one of the driving forces to complete the restoration of the World War II Memorial in NUTLEY. One of the founders of SYA, he spent a lot of his time volunteering to the mentally challenged children and adults, and raised money annually to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

He was proud to recieve the Nutley UNICO Achievement Award, Essex Chemical Achievement Award in 1989, Nutley/Belleville Columbus Day Man of the Year in 2011, Nutley Veteran’s Bureau’s Veteran of the Year in 2013, Dow Chemical President Award, Legion of Honor Award (The Chapel of Four Chaplains), and spear headed to refurbish and rededicate the World War II Memorial. He was also the former Grand Marshal of Memorial Day Parade and Columbus Day Italian Man of the Year.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara A. (Esposito) Marese; his daughters, Angela Marese Boyle and her husband James Boyle and Dr. Rose Marie Marese; his grandchildren, Danielle Boyle Melman and her husband David Melman, Alita Boyle Eaton and her husband Christopher Scott Eaton, Barbara Rose Marese and Marisa Smith; and his great-grandchildren, Madison, Brooks, and Ella Rose. He is predeceased by his brother William Marese, and his sisters, Catherine Gingerelli and Antoinette Powers.

The funeral will be on Saturday at 9am from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home 267 Centre St., Nutley.

The Funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Nutley at 10am.

The interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in remembrance of Daniel Marese and in honor of Marisa Smith would be appreciated.
