First Female Graduate from the Essex County Police Academy
Dorothy Nolan, 101, formerly of Nutley, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2018. Born in Irvington, the daughter of Bernard and Sadie Bennett, she lived in Nutley prior to moving to Naples, Florida 39 years ago.
The first woman graduate of the Essex County Police Academy, prior to her retirement she was a Sheriff’s Officer.
After her graduation from Irvington High School, she was a model for Bamberger’s Department Store.
An avid golfer, Dorothy actively played into her 80’s.
The beloved wife of the late James T. Nolan, she is survived by her children, Rick, Janice, Tom and John; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren,
The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 31, 2018 at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St., Nutley at 10 a.m.
The interment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union.
Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 9 a.m. until service time.
