Obituary for Emidio S. Colucci

Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather

Emidio S. Colucci, 96, of Newark, NJ, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019. Born in Newark, the son of Francesco and Nevicella (DelGuercio) Colucci, he lived in Newark until age 92. He proudly served overseas in the U.S. Army during World War II. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Rutgers University - Newark College, and he retired in 1979 after 33 years as an accountant and home loan officer with the U.S. Veterans Affairs Dept., Newark office. Emidio, often called “Steve” (from his middle name), was active in many activities and organizations throughout his life. He played in amateur softball and bowling leagues. He was a member of the Guard of Honor at St. Lucy’s Church in Newark, a volunteer at the Center for Italian & Italian American Culture in Cedar Grove, a volunteer at the NJ Historical Society in Newark, and an annual volunteer on the St. Lucy’s Church St. Gerard Feast Committee. He served as President of the North Ward Property Owners Association in Newark, as Union Local President of the National Federation of Federal Employees, and for many years as Manager of the Employees’ Federal Credit Union at the Veterans Affairs Newark office.

The beloved husband for 58 years of the late Josephine (Cascio) Colucci, he is survived by his four children, Loraine, Stephen (and wife Kathleen), Diane and Patrick Colucci; his brother, Frank Colucci; his sister Neva Brown; two grandchildren, Julia and Rachel Colucci; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents and wife, Emidio is predeceased by 9 brothers and sisters.

The funeral will be Monday, March 25th at 8:45am, from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St., Nutley, NJ.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Lucy’s Church in Newark at 10am.

The entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in No. Arlington.

Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Sunday March 24th from 2-6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Lucy’s Church would be appreciated.
