Obituary for Fedele "Red" Galioto

Fedele (Phil) “Red” Galioto, 75 of Clifton passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2019. Born in West Palm Beach, Florida to the late James and Mary (Casta) Galioto. He lived in Belleville before moving to Clifton 16 years ago. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a police officer for 27 years for the city of Newark and the Archdiocese of Newark for 28 years. Phil was an assistant football coach at Governor Livingston High School in Berkley Heights and Belleville High School, but some of his happiest moments came as the coach of the Belleville Recreation “Jets” youth football team. Phil attended Florida State University where he played football. He later played semi-pro football for the Boonton Bears and was a lifelong Noles fan. He was a member of AMVETS Post 26 in Belleville, Masonic Lodge #25 in Nutley, FOP Lodge #12 in Newark and Retired Police and Fireman Association of New Jersey. Phil also served in the U.S. Marine Corps reserve from 1964 to 1970.

The beloved husband of 54 years of Lee Anne (Stevens) Galioto, he is survived by his loving children, Jamie Galioto and his wife Cecilia and Kristen Giordano and her husband Ralph, his caring grandchildren Aryana and Ryan (RJ) Galioto, Chloe, Sienna, Caprice and Ralphie Giordano, his sisters-in-law, Sue Moore and Jane Pappin and his brother-in-law Bill Stevens, along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and life-long friends.

The funeral will be 9 a.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St., Nutley.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua in Belleville at 10 a.m.

The entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.

Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 3-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, a charity he has supported all his life, would be appreciated.
