Obituary for Florence "Arlene" Kaisen (Wason)

Florence “Arlene” Kaisen (Wason) 88 of Nutley died of natural causes on June 27, 2020 at Clara Maas Medical Center after a short illness. Born and raised in Kearny, NJ, she was the daughter of the late John and Helen (Butler) Wason. She met her husband Arthur Kaisen and they married on October 12,1957, moving to Nutley in 1962 where they raised their family.

Arlene’s was employed at Ohrbach's and Hoffman LaRoche and later transitioned to childcare, which eventually included raising her two daughters, caring for her grandchildren and finally loving her grand dog Oliver’s extended visits. She enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and annual family trips to Virginia visiting her grandchildren at school over the last 10 years.

Arlene was a giving person that sacrificed so much for her family. She was always strong, listened, offering words of encouragement and comfort along with her undying love.

Arlene was a proud member of the local Red Hat, Nutley Irish American Association and the Woman’s Auxiliary of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Nutley.

Arlene is survived by her daughters, Linda Malik and her husband James of Glen Ridge and Janet Kaisen of Nutley, her grandchildren, Kyle Malik of Arlington, VA, Amanda Malik of Charlotte, NC and James Malik II of Glen Ridge. She also leaves her brother-in-law, Chares Gerris of Wayne and her nephews, Charles Gerris, Jr. of Wayne and Scott Gerris of New York City.

Arlene was predeceased by her beloved husband, Arthur, her son Gregory and her sisters, Jacqueline Wason and Diane Gerris.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Nutley Volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad 119 Chestnut St. Nutley, NJ 07110, would be welcomed.


The graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 2nd at 10:30am at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Montclair.

In accordance with the current State regulations, everyone must wear a face mask and observe social distancing recommendation of 6 feet.
