Obituary for Francesco Ritacco

Francesco Ritacco, age 74, of Montville, passed away at his home on Monday, May 30, 2022. Born in Acri, Cosenza, Italy, Francesco (Frank) was the son of the late Domenico and Nunziata (Ferrara) Ritacco. After moving to the US at age 19, he lived in Nutley for most of his life prior to moving to Montville 10 years ago. He worked as a pipefitter for Hoffman LaRoche for 27 years and also worked many side jobs during this time to support his family. Frank was also an avid hunter and all things reminiscent of his Italian roots including canning tomato sauce in the Summer, making homemade wine in the Fall and curing homemade Italian sausage in the Winter and many more.

In his retirement, Frank enjoyed tending to his beloved garden, spending time with his grandchildren, whom he adored more than anything, and visiting with his brothers, sisters and friends. Frank was a friend to everyone he met and would give a helping hand to anyone in need. Frank was known to have a magic car trunk of tools and necessities that many have benefited from when in need. While eating pasta, “I ran out of parmesan cheese”. Frank, “hey, let me run out to the trunk and grab one”.

Frank was a man of great dignity, integrity, kindness and humor and will be fiercely missed by his family. He was incredibly proud of his son, daughter and grandchildren and shared the same with many.

Frank is survived by his children Dominick Ritacco and wife Andrea Ritacco, and Nancy (Ritacco) Conturso and husband John Conturso, his 7 brothers and sisters and their families and his companion Dora Panicucci. He was a beloved and devoted grandfather to his 5 grandchildren John Michael Conturso, Grace Conturso, Natalie Ritacco, David Ritacco, and Daniel Conturso.
