Obituary for Frank D. Candido

Frank D. Candido, 81, of Bloomfield, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2023. Born in Brooklyn, NY Frank moved to Bloomfield in 1972. He graduated from New Utrecht H.S., The Academy of Aeronautics, and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Fairleigh Dickenson University in Rutherford.

Frank worked for Western Electric as a system equipment engineer in Newark, Supervisor in the warranty and pricing organization, and as an Account Manager in 5 Penn Plaza, NYC. Frank worked for Republic Aviation as an electronics technician for the F-105 fighter bomber. He also worked for the NYC post office and worked as a waiter/cook in his father's restaurant, which was located on Madison Ave. and 82nd street, NYC.

Frank served in the NY Air National Guard during the Vietnam era and received a certificate of recognition, from the U.S. Secretary of Defense, for his service to promote peace and stability during The Cold War. He served Secretary, Treasurer, Executive Board Member, and Scholarship Chairman for the Bloomfield chapter of Unico. Frank was an Eucharistic Minister, CCD teacher, alter server and server instructor, and usher at St. Thomas the Apostle Church.

Frank was also the founder and original member of the SWEM (Second Wednesday of the Month) Club and received its most coveted award- The KTSOD (Knight Templar of the SWEM OPUS DEI) Award.

His beloved wife Raffaela DeSantis Candido predeceased Frank. Frank's prayers are with each of you especially Paul, Laura, and all family members.

Frank is survived by his children Paul Candido and Laura Celestini and her husband Enrico, his sister Marie Silvanio, and two grandchildren Cara and Jessa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Frank's memory may be made to the ALS Foundation, St. Thomas the Apostle Church, or to The Cancer Society in memory of Frank's dear friend Antonina Ofsak.

Visitors will be received at the funeral home Saturday, February 4th from 2- 6pm. The Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle church Monday, February 6th at 10:45am.
