Obituary for Fred D. Minor

Fred D. Minor, 81, of Bloomfield, NJ, passed away on February 2, 2022. Born and reared in Texas, he was the loving son of the late Granville Minor and Minnie-Mae Richardson. Raised on a farm, he learned the values of working the earth from dawn until well after dusk with his family. Fred was especially proud of the ethical and cultural principles he learned from his grandfather, which sustained him throughout his life. Fred attended Texas College and was a U.S. Army veteran where he attended the Army’s computer training center. He was a Systems Analyst for Morgan Stanley in New York City. After retirement, he worked as a realtor, built his own brokerage firm, and was a member of the National Association of Realtors.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Yvonne Marie née Cibert, whom he met while stationed in France and by his son Christopher William Minor. His son Erik Andre Minor predeceased him. Fred also leaves a brother, Jimmy Kirven, sister Bobbie-Jean Hall and her husband Odell Hall, sister Mary Ann Richardson, and many nieces and nephews.

A fervent Catholic, Fred spent many years sharing the gift of his voice; he sang with his heart and with his faith. In Nutley, NJ, he was a former cantor at Holy Family Church and spent his last years as a cantor at Mount Carmel Church.

Those who knew Fred enjoyed his zest for life. He loved his family dearly and others as well. He excelled at sports and loved golf in particular, bringing magic to how well he hit his driver and irons, even at the age of 80. He was always ready to help, showing a smile and spark of kindness in his eyes. Known for his sense of humor, he was unafraid and faced the future as an exciting adventure, as he dreamed of greater achievements

A true entrepreneur, Fred continued his IT career after leaving the Army, becoming an expert as the market moved from mainframes to personal computers. He started his own computer consulting company, designing customized computer systems and customized programming services for small and large businesses into the 1990s. .When the first bomb exploded below the World Trade Center in 1993, he was working on the 42nd floor. After helping others down the dark, smoky stairwells, he found a flashlight and climbed the stairs to his office area to help others. He took charge in the chaotic dark offices and stairwells, directing people, and inspiring them to remain calm as they descended the 42 floors. He continued this until no one else remained.
