Obituary for Gaetana A. Meluso (Malfitano)

Gaetana was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a loving aunt, sister, and friend. She graduated William L. Dickinson High School in Jersey City and worked for RCA in Harrison for ten years before she, and her lifelong love and husband, started having children. She was a charitable woman who adored her family and was fun to be around. She was known to be an exemplary cook and an incredible baker. Her house so often smelled of fresh, homemade baked bread and sweet cake. Her son, Peter, was often scolded for eating some of those delicious holiday cakes that were intended for celebration. Gaetana was a lady of faith and practiced her beliefs with generosity and compassion. One of the many memories that her son, Peter, recollects was that she taught him to always help people in need when you are able. “For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger and you invited Me in.” Matthew 25:35.
Her daughter, Michele, says that their mother was as beautiful inside as she was on the outside. She was a generous woman, who loved her family and friends fiercely. She was married to her sweetheart, Peter, for 67 years and was a devoted wife, who loved him with her whole heart. Michele remembers her mother as funny, feisty, and a lady who loved to shop. Anytime someone would stop by to visit at the shore house, they were always made to feel welcomed.
As for Carol Ann, who couldn’t agree more with her brother and sister, her fondest memories was the aroma of Gaetana’s Thursday night gravy. She loved to feed the “masses”. It brought her great joy to cook for those she cherished and adored. Gaetana was lovingly cared for by, Carol Ann and her beau Chuck, in the days leading up to her homecoming with the Lord. Chuck made her ‘belly’ laugh constantly and Carol Ann made sure she was dressed, with her hair done so her beauty never faded. To Carol Ann and Chuck, she will always be their “Golden Girl”.
Gaetana will be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and good friends.
