Obituary for George Charles Tensfeldt

Beloved Husband, Father & Grandfather

George Charles Tensfeldt, 91 of Belleville, passed away peacefully at his home with his family surrounding him on Saturday September 1,2018. Born in Union City, he was the son of the late Laura (O’Connor) and George Otto. He was raised in Hoboken, raising his family in Secaucus and Belleville where he lived for 45 years. He traveled the world, South America, the Mediterranean and Mid-East as well as Australia, through service in the U.S. Merchant Marines prior to being a paratrooper with the US Armed Forces in WWII serving in Eisenhowers Honor Guard after the 508 Parachute Infantry Unit was broken up, and afterwards served in the U.S. Naval Reserve.

George worked at numerous and varied jobs over his life, retiring as a truck driver for Dry Ice Corp in Newark and after retirement worked for Tore Electric Company in Belleville for 10 years.

George was an avid bowler at Columbia Park Bowling North Bergen with the Men's Immaculate Conception bowling team crew from Secaucus, as well as leagues from around the area and most recently at Belleville Brunswick Lanes with the Nutley Old Guard and Monday Morning Senior Leagues.
It only took George 55 years of bowling to roll the first of two perfect 300 games the first of which was a sanctioned game at the age of 73 in 2001 with the Men's ICC Bowling League. The second of which was several years ago with the Senior Leage at Belleville Brunswick Lanes.

He was also a member of the Nutley Stuart E. Edgar Post 493 V.F.W. and the Old Guard of Nutley. Survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Eugenia (Garbarini) Tensfeldt; his sons, Thomas G. Tensfeldt & wife Mary, James L. Tensfeldt & wife Julia, Donald E. Tensfeldt & wife Karen; his daughter, Nancy J. Ascione & husband John; and his grandchildren, Travis, Cali, Veronica, Timothy, Brianna, Jessica & Christopher.

The funeral will be Wednesday 8:30am from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, (www.swbrownandson.com), 267 Centre St., Nutley.

The Funeral mass will be Wednesday at 9:30am at Holy Family Church in Nutley.

The interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in No. Arlington.

Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday 2-6pm.
