Obituary for Grace McCarthy
Grace McCarthy, 84, passed away Friday, September 2, 2022, at her home in Bloomfield, NJ, surrounded by her adopted sister Betty and her loving family. Born in Scranton, PA, and raised in New Jersey, she graduated from East Side High School in Newark 1957 and went on to work for the Prudential Insurance company in medical claims for forty years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis McCarthy and Marion Casey McCarthy, as well as her brothers Frank and James and sisters Mary Lou McCarthy Armstrong and Sr Clare Regina McCarthy SC.
Grace is survived by her lifelong adoptive sister Elizabeth (Betty) Roberti, her brothers Joseph and his wife Marguerite, and Lawrence (late Mary Collins McCarthy) and sisters Alyce McCarthy Miele (late John) and Anne McCarthy Metli and her husband Richard, and many loving nieces, nephews, grand & great.
Grace was a loving sister and friend. She had a caring, generous nature and shared that spirit with everyone she touched. An expert in the art of conversation, she was never afraid to spark interest and chat with anyone about anything and everything. There wasn't a person she couldn't make smile or a family member or friend she didn't appreciate. Her loving personality, charisma, and contagious sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew her.
She loved to talk with friends and family. Grace was a person of great kindness, compassion, and love. Grace would love to hear about each person's life and family. She gifted her enormous heart to those needing a compassionate ear easing their anxiety with her understanding and wisdom. Grace's generosity was deeply devoted to those in need and would offer assistance even without one asking. She could talk to anyone on any subject, embracing their sorrows and joys as her own. Her interests were in traveling, and everyone would eagerly await her very descriptive accounts of her beautiful travels that made one feel as if they were there with her.
The emptiness in the hearts of those who loved Grace is forever.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 16, 2022, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 66 Bryd Avenue, Bloomfield, NJ 07003 at 9:30AM.
Cremation will be private.
