Obituary for Harold A. Bottino

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of a Nutley notable, Harold Bottino.

Harold was a proud New Jersey son, Nutley High School graduate, US Army Veteran, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He dedicated much of his adult life to supporting and serving others. From helping the family business at Kastner’s Furniture, to coaching Nutley Central Little League, to cheering on his alma mater year-over-year, to ensuring resources for Post 70 American Legion Baseball every summer, to his many days serving Post 70 as Commander and standing alongside his fellow Veterans, Harry savored every moment of those days and, especially, those he encountered.

Nothing was more important to Harry than family and friends. For each, he had many. He cherished every relationship made over his years and thrived most when surrounded by those who knew him best. Family members were loved ones and his friends remained just as close. When around his friends and family, his easily identifiable laugh filled the room, his ear-to-ear grin made others smile, and he naturally lit up when with those he knew best.

Of course, we cannot describe Harry without noting his passion for his beloved Giants, Yankees, and Rangers. Sports was a centerpiece of his life, to which many of his closest relationships formed. To Harry, it wasn’t about who won or who lost, it was about the moments shared and the memories made with those near him. Football, baseball, and hockey won’t be the same without their biggest fan. Those closest to him would agree, Harry hasn’t passed on...he just found a new place to build relationships, share laughs, and catch a game while watching over us all.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Yetta Kastner (formerly of Nutley) and his brother, Bill Bottino (also a Nutley original). Harold is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Ruth; son Marc of Nutley; son Kevin and his wife, Elvia of Shalimar, FL; grandchildren Dentin, Sarina, and Deanna; sister Karen and brothers Richie, Larry, and Scott; along with his many cousins, nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.

You are forever in our hearts, Big Har!

A celebration for Harold’s life is being planned for a later date.
