James F. Murray, 83
Dedicated educator & coach

James F. Murray of Bloomfield, passed away on Friday January 21, 2022. Born in Newark, he was the son of the late James F., Sr and Ruth (Allten) Murray. Jim lived in Nutley before coming to Bloomfield in 1995 and was a dedicated educator and coach. A graduate of Seton Hall Prep and University, Jim earned his Bachelors degree in Physical Education and Health and Masters of Education degree in Administration & Supervision. He coached football, basketball, golf, soccer, girls’ softball and volleyball at Shabazz High School in Newark before retiring. He was a former member of the Nutley Board of Education and former president of the Radcliffe School PTA. Jim was also a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2346 in Nutley and was a world traveler. In his spare time he enjoyed crossword puzzles, attending his grandchildren’s sports and school events, and visiting the New Jersey shore. He was a dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan which stemmed from his admiration of their Coach Tom Landry.

James is survived by his beloved companion, Mary Bennett, his devoted children, Robert Murray and wife, Caroline, Maureen Terranova and husband, William, Patricia Murray, Jeanne Marie Cotton and husband, Brant, and Kathleen L. Murray. He also leaves his grandchildren, Carolyn, Rita, Shawn and Katie, his dear sister, Maryann Kiesel and his nephews and niece.

Funeral from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St. Nutley on Wednesday January 26 at 8:30 AM.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Valentine Church, Bloomfield at 9:30 AM followed by burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Orange.

Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 PM.
