Obituary for Jennie LaFerriere (Mitchell)

Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother & Great-Great-Grandmother

Jennie LaFerriere, 98 of Nutley passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at her home. Born in Wimmers, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Stewart and Esther (Brown) Mitchell, she lived in Pennsylvania prior to moving to Nutley 80 years ago. As well as a housewife and mother, Jennie was a member of the Belleville Seniors Wednesday Club and former Treasurer and member of the Nutley Seniors Tuesday Club. She was also a devout member of Vincent United Methodist Church for many years.

The beloved wife of the late Alexander “Frenchy” LaFerriere, she is survived by her loving daughter, Jennie Stevens and her loving sons, Alex and his wife, Donna, James and his wife, Jeanette, Donald and his wife, Michelle and Albert and his wife, Cindy; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Deborah Jean; her sisters, Evelyn Williams, Bertha Grady and Christine LePree and her brother, Walter Mitchell.

Jennie’s passion was always to be a loving mother and proud grandmother of 3 generations. She loved reading her Bible and daily prayers. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, the New York Yankees and was great at word puzzles. Also, many memories were made with family and friends at her shore home in Silverton, Toms River.
Besides her children, she was a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews. Called “mom” and “grandma” by many others who she helped over the years with her loving, kind and caring nature.

She will be sadly missed.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home 267 Centre St., Nutley at 1 p.m.

The interment will follow at Crest haven Memorial Park in Clifton.

Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until service time.

Donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) would be preferred.
