Obituary for Jill Elizabeth Johantgen

Jill Elizabeth Johantgen, 66 of Clifton NJ, passed away on Saturday April 24, 2021. She was the beloved daughter of the late Richard and Barbara (Mailler) Johantgen. Born in Passaic, Jill lived almost her entire life in Nutley, NJ until retiring to Clifton. She graduated Nutley High in 1973. She was employed in an Essex County Law office for many years prior to her retirement.

Jill enjoyed a committed and lifelong affiliation with Grace Episcopal Church in Nutley. She belonged to the EYC (Episcopal Young Churchmen) and participated in several choirs, the Altar Guild and the Flower Guild. Her love of music led her to participate in church talent shows. As an adult, she was member of the ECW (Episcopal Church Women) and the midweek Bible Study. In 2019 she was presented with the D.P Hegg Lifetime Achievement Award for her many years of service to the Church from the Diocese of Newark. For years she was also active in local ministry groups and was able to travel with them both domestically and internationally. Among her travels were visits to New Zealand, the UK and Israel.

Jill was a loving daughter, a dear sister and aunt, but especially a dear friend with many in her community. Her biggest joys came from being of assistance to others. She did this generously and and in good humor, despite her life long physical challenges. Along with her parents, Jill was predeceased in the last year by her sister, Barbara Gail Johantgen and is survived by her sister, Lynn J. Crow, her husband, Charles S. Crow III., a niece, nephew and their children.

A Memorial Service for Jill and Barbara will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Nutley on June 29, 2021 at 11am. Memorial donations may be made to her ‘second home', Grace Episcopal Church in Nutley, NJ.
