Obituary for Joanne Scarola

Joanne A. Scarola, 84 of Verona, passed away on Thursday February 20, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family. Born in East Orange, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Anna (Wilk) Zawadzki. Mrs. Scarola lived in Belleville and then in Nutley for 53 years before moving to Verona 3 and half years ago. She was a bookkeeper with Premium Electric in East Orange and was also a member of the St. Lucy Filippini Sodality at Holy Family Church. Her greatest roles and the ones she treasured most were that of a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother - always putting everyone’s needs first. Joanne loved family vacations, gardening, cooking and sports and was the biggest supporter at her grandchildren’s games and other events. She was cherished by all for her abundance of love, faith, and strength, which will continue to guide her family forever.

Joanne is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Rocco Scarola, her devoted daughters, Maria Salerno, Nancy Scarola and husband, Thomas SanGiacomo, Annette Murphy and husband, Kevin and Linda Batson and husband, Stephen. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren, Steven Salerno and wife, Stephanie, Matthew Scarola and wife, Jackie, Kasey, Kelly and Michael Murphy and Max and Ben Batson and was the dear sister of the late Philip Zawadzki.

The funeral will be from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St. Nutley on Monday February 24 at 8:30 am.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church, Nutley at 9:30 am followed by entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.

Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-5 pm.
