Obituary for John R. "Jack" Donahue

John ‘Jack’ Donahue, 81 of Succasunna, and formerly of Clifton, passed away on Saturday May 1, 2021. Born in Long Branch and raised in Leonardo, he was the son of the late John and Ethel (Layton) Donahue. Jack was a graduate of Middletown High School, was a volunteer with Brevent Park Fire Co. – Station 2 in Leonardo and had worked as store clerk at Two Guy’s Department Store in Kearny. Mr. Donahue was soft spoken and a true gentle man. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved visiting the Atlantic Highland, just to watch the boats. Jack took great joy being with his family and friends for Holidays, BBQ’s, family poker games or just to stop over for coffee, he could be found working on puzzle books and watching his favorite classic shows on Me TV. He loved telling jokes, even if you heard it already, he would still tell it again just to laugh. Jack was always there to lend a hand when someone was in need.
A devoted husband and father, Jack was predeceased by his wife, Catherine A. (Adragna) Donahue. He is survived by his loving children; daughter Jacquelyn Bastone and her husband, Luigi of Succasunna and son, Ken Brucato of Mt. Arlington. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Ann (Brucato) Donahue and was the dear brother of Eleanor Cranford and the late Ethel Donahue. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitors will be received at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St. Nutley on Wednesday May 5 from 4-8 pm.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church, Nutley on Thursday at 10:30 am followed by entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery in North
