Obituary for John X. Bezerra

João “Johnny” Xerfan Bezerra, 71
A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother

John Bezerra passed away on March 19, 2021 at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston NJ. John was born August 6, 1949 in Belem Para, Brasil. John immigrated to the United States in 1968 at the age of 17. He lived in Newark NJ, Caldwell NJ and Davie FL, before settling in Belleville NJ.

His greatest joy was spending time with family, friends, and fellow veterans. He loved watching the Brazil Soccer team down neck with his family. John was a member of the American Legion Post 70, MOPH Chapter 366, VFW Post 493 and a fixture at the American Legion Post 105.

He received a Bronze Star for valor, a Purple Heart and many other medals and honors for his service in Vietnam from 1969-1970. He then began his 25 year career with the railroad (mostly Amtrak).

He was predeceased by his father Manoel Bezerra.

He is survived by his mother Farrime Xerfan Bezerra and his loving wife of 48 years Audrey (Henry) Bezerra. Together they have three wonderful children; daughter, Felicia (husband Patrick Gustoso), son Manoel (wife Vanessa), and daughter Megan (husband, Brian Perez). John was blessed with seven grandchildren: Gabriella, Isabella, John Rocco, Dominic, Giovanni, Luca and Aiden. He also leaves behind so many wonderful family members who called him mano(brother) or Uncle Johnny.

Visitors will be received at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St. Nutley on Wednesday March 24 from 1-3 & 6-8 pm and live streamed on YouTube S.W. Brown & Son Channel (John Bezerra Service).

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church, Nutley on Thursday at 10:30 am followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
