Obituary for John L. De Simone

John L. De Simone, 83 of Lakewood, formerly of Belleville, passed away on April 20, 2021. Born in Newark, NJ he resided in Verona, Belleville, and Lakewood prior to moving to Little Egg Harbor. John was the son to the late Giovanni and Caroline (Ambroselli) De Simone. John was predeceased by his loving wife Concetta (Coppola) DeSimone. He leaves behind his daughter Laura Testa, Daria De Simone, and her fiancée Richard Antolini, three grandchildren, Giovanna and Michael Testa, and Dara De Simone. John graduated from Barringer High School in Newark, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and finished top 10 in his class. After graduation he attended Rutgers College of Pharmacy where he obtained his professional degree in 1959.

In 1960 John enlisted in the US Army. After basic training at Fort Dix, NJ he served at Fort Sam Houston, Texas for US Army Medical Training and served with US Army Medical Corps, before being honorable discharged in 1963. After his discharge John owned and operated Guardy’s Pharmacy in Newark, NJ from 1964 to 1974, he was past President of the NJ Pharmacist Guild in 1978, a Clinical Pharmacist at Essex County Geriatric Center in Belleville, NJ from 1977-1981, a Chief Pharmacist at “Burgess Chemist Professional Pharmacy in Bloomfield, from 1991 to 2002, an active member of the Knights of Columbus from 2002 to present, and a member of UNICO Bloomfield Chapter 1990. John was an ardent fan of the NY Rangers, and the NY Giants since 1950. He also loved to be with family and friends. John cherished his Friday night Pinochle card games with his friends, Vic, Dave, and Mike for many years. He will always cherish his 75-year friendship with Dom Ancialli. He loved his dogs, Cherry, Pudgie, Lady and Ralphie.


The funeral will be Friday, April 23, 2021 at 9:30am from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, (www.swbrownandson.com), 267 Centre St., Nutley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Church on Friday, April 23, 2021 at 10:30am.

The interment will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Montclair, NJ.

Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Thursday, April 22, 2021 from 4-7pm
