Obituary for John J. Denkinger

Proud World War II Veteran
John J. Denkinger, of Nutley, passed away on Monday, January 01, 2018 at his home. Born in Kearny, the son of the late Madeline & John J. Denkinger, he lived in Kearny prior to moving to Nutley 73 years ago.
John retired as a foreman from the Township of Nutley Parking Meter Division. He was a proud Army Veteran of World War II serving in the European Theatre as a Tank Driver in General Patton’s 4th Armored Division. He earned 2 Battle Stars and a Presidential Unit Citation including the Battle of the Bulge.
He was past commander and life member of the Nutley American Legion Post 70 in Nutley and Past County Commander for the Essex County American Legion.
John served as the Grand Marshal in the 1992 Memorial Day Parade, Past President and Parliamentarian of the Nutley Old Guard, member of the AARP Chapter #2007 and member of the Nutley Senior Service Club.
The loving husband of Evelyn (Strauss) Denkinger & the late Jolana (Marsala) Denkinger, he is survived by his children, Joseph Paul & Diana A. Denkinger; his step-sons, Michael & Ronald Pugaczewski; a sister Madeline; 8 grandchildren, Brian Pierce, Shannon O’Rourke, Michael, Christian, James, Brian & Blake Pugaczewski and Corine Bruno and his great-grandchildren, William, Alison, Ava & Gianna & Sebastian
The funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 158 Vreeland Ave, Nutley.
The interment will follow at Crest Haven Memorial Park in Clifton
Visitors will be received at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
Nutley Old Guard Service will be at 3 p.m.
