Obituary for Joseph J. Downey
Joseph J. Downey, 55, of Bloomfield, passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Kearny, NJ, the son of Bruce and Barbara (Ferretti) Downey, he lived in Belleville prior to moving to Bloomfield 13tyears ago.
He was a mechanic with Dee’s Service Center in Bloomfield and a member and past Grand Knight of the Belleville Knights of Columbus Council #835.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Danielle (Geraci) Downey; his children, Joseph, Nicholas, Danielle and Brandon Downey and Stephen O’Toole; his grandchildren, Samantha, Stephen and Mason and his sister, Linda Downey. Along with his parents, he was also predeceased by his uncle, Jack Ferriera; and his brother, Douglas.
The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home 267 Centre St., Nutley.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Church in Belleville at 11 a.m.
The cremation services will be private.
Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. with the Knights of Columbus service starting at 7 p.m.
