Obituary for Joseph A. Vella

Joseph A. Vella 33, passed away unexpectedly on June 24, 2020.

Joey was born in Livingston on May 13, 1987 and was the son of Joseph Vella and the late Rosanne (Mongiello) Vella. He lived in Bloomfield until the age of 8 and then, moved to Nutley where he was raised by Anthony and Gina Cugliari.
Joey grew up with his cousins, Anthony and Michael Cugliari. Becoming more like brothers than cousins. His sister, Rachael (Vella) Curcio, although not living with him maintained a close relationship.

Joey graduated Nutley High School in 2006. He was an outstanding football player, showing no fear and playing both offense and defense for the Nutley Raiders. These years were the highlights of his life.
He lived in Nutley until 2012, when he moved to N Carolina. While in N Carolina he lived with his mother and younger brother, Anthony Sweeney, there, he started his close relationship with his brother and rekindled his relationship with his mother. He cared for her until her passing in April of 2020.
Joey worked in the construction field as a carpenter, tile installer and in other various construction trades. He was an avid animal and dog lover. Recently suffering the loss of his dog, Roxy in NC.
Joey returned to New Jersey May 2020.
Joey is survived by many family members and families who loved him dearly; the Stanziale’s, the Mongiello’s, the Cugliari’s, the Palma’s, the Vella’s, the Sweeney’s, the Kaufman’s, and so many other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Joey will forever be loved and missed as he enters eternity.


The funeral service for Joseph will be held privately.
