Obituary for Lena Volpe (Pomarico)

Loving Wife, Mother, Sister and Grandmother

Lena Volpe, 94, passed away on November 27, 2021. Born in Montclair, NJ she spent most of her life in Nutley, NJ before residing in Manahawkin, NJ and Paradise Valley, Arizona. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Columbia (Valvano) Pomarico.

Lee, as she was known to friends, worked at American Insurance and Mutual Benefit Life Insurance in Newark, NJ before retiring as an Editor from NJ Bell Telephone in Glen Ridge, NJ.

Lena attended Rutgers University, was an avid mystery reader and master of word puzzles. She enjoyed opening her home at the New Jersey shore to family and friends during the summer months and spending winters in Arizona.

Lena was predeceased by her loving husband Rocco, Sister Rose Simeone and her brother Angelo Pomarico. She leaves behind her loving family, daughter Jayne V. Marano, and her husband Dr. Michael, son Andrew, sisters Lucille Westpy and Margaret Geiger, Grandchildren Dr. Jacquelyn Marano and Dr. Drew Marano as well as nine nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Lena Volpe to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Sunday, December 5, 2021, from 2-5pm.

The funeral will be Monday, December 6, 2021, at 9:30am from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St., Nutley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Church, 28 Brookline Avenue, Nutley, NJ at 10:30am

The interment will follow at Glendale cemetery in Bloomfield, NJ.
