Lillian (nee Gagliardotto) Kassel
Lillian Kassel (nee Gagliardotto) passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at age 99. The adored wife of the late William F. Kassel, Lil lived in Nutley, NJ for over 58 years. Born in Newark, NJ, the daughter of Francesca (DiGiovanni) and John (Gagliardotto) Garry, she was the last surviving member of a large family: Andrew J. Garry, Mary J. Cocuzza, Josephine Taurosa, Grace MacAdam, John J. Garry, Sr., Anthony J. Garry, Theresa Golardi (all deceased).
Lillian was cherished by her nieces and nephews: Robert Garry, John Garry, Jr, James Garry, Lorraine Gagliardotto Garry, Kathi Garry McCord, Valerie Taurosa Sleckman and Joni Taurosa-Fallo.
Lil will be remembered as a generous, thoughtful, flirtatious, witty, and cheeky soul who completely captivated all who came within her sphere. The Senior Secretary for over 36 years at Hoffmann La Roche, after retiring, Lil was also the Secretary and active Sunshine volunteer for the Roche Retiree Club. After her husband died, she worked part time as a receptionist at Montclair Country Club.
A woman of strong religious faith, Lil attended St. Mary’s Church in Nutley, the Bible study group, and as an Honorary Rosarian, she celebrated the Crowning of the Blessed Mother.
The family would like to acknowledge Joanne Avery and Irena Lesniewska, the two wonderful women who have taken care of Lil for the past several years, and were there with Lil in her final hours.
Lil would prefer instead of flowers, to instead donate, to one of her favorite charities: St. Mary’s Church: Nutley, St John’s Church in Newark, or the Archdiocese of Newark.
Visitation will be at S. W. Brown & Son Funeral Home. Saturday, April 22nd, 8:30am to 9:30am. 267 Centre St. Nutley. Mass will be at St. Mary’s Church, 17 Monsignor Owens Pl, Nutley, at 10am. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Aves, East Hanover, NJ.
