Obituary for Lucilia Amador

Lucilia Amador, 56, of Nutley, passed away on Sunday March 28, 2021. Born in Monte Murtosa, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late José and Lucilia De Jesus Gravato Amador. Lucilia emigrated from Portugal to America at the age of 14 after losing both of her parents. Even at a young age, Lucilia showed a resilience and toughness that could not be matched. Through her amazing work ethic, she forged a path of success that not many would be able to achieve if faced with similar circumstances at such a young age with only herself to rely on. Lucy was a graduate of Caldwell College and was the Vice President of Credit at Safra National Bank of New York. Lucilia is survived by her beloved husband, José Carlos Garrett Baia, her loving children, José Carlos Amador Baia, Bianca Amador Baia, Brina Amador Baia and her granddaughter, Charlotte Lucilia Biondi. She also leaves her dear sister, Maria José Amador.

Lucilia, when first diagnosed, was given only six months to live. Faced with insurmountable odds, she did what was considered medically impossible and turned those six months into six years. She was considered a miracle throughout the medical community. The miracle not being modern medicine, but the fact that God put someone on this earth with so much toughness and grit to not only survive such an ordeal, but to continue to LIVE through it.

Relatives and friends will be received at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home located at 267 Centre St in Nutley on Thursday April 1 from 6-9 pm.

A Funeral Blessing will be offered for Lucilia at Holy Family Church in Nutley on Friday at 10:30 am.

Cremation will be private.
