Margaret (Peg) Scheinler Smith

Loving Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother & Great-Grandmother

Margaret (Peg) Scheinler Smith, 94 of Essex Fells, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023. Born in Passaic, NJ, Margaret was the daughter of the late William H. and Margaret B. (Hill) Scheinler.

Margaret graduated from Nutley High School in 1946 and Berkeley Secretarial School in 1947. She married Raymond J. Smith in 1949, and they resided in Nutley, NJ where they owned a service station, Ray became a vocational teacher and Peg worked in the legal profession. Margaret was a lifelong parishioner of Grace Episcopal Church in Nutley, where she was very active with Couples Club and Altar Guild.

After attending Berkeley Secretarial School she worked for George La Monte & Son, Nutley and Carl F. Barbato Law Firm, Montclair. She was a notary public and legal assistant at Hack, Piro, O'Day, Merklinger, Wallace & McKenna Law Firm for 30 years before retiring in 1996 to spend time with her family.

After retirement Peg and Ray lived in Leisure Knoll at Manchester, where she served on the Board of Trustees, and volunteered at the Ocean County Courthouse. Peg enjoyed reading, playing cards, lunch with friends from work, shopping, theatre in NYC, golf, watching sports, (Peg was a Giants fan) and family vacations to Montauk, NY and Myrtle Beach SC.

Her greatest joys in life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and spending time at their favorite activities.

Margaret is survived by her children, Pat and Loris Muzzatti and Bob and Beverly Smith; her grandchildren, Katie and Rob Swanson, Alair Muzzatti, Michael and Mallory Smith, Tina Smith, and Paige Muzzatti; and 6 great-grandchildren, Reagan, Riley, Cooper, Rebecca, Robert, and Kinsley. She is fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Raymond J. Smith and her brother, William R. Scheinler.

The funeral service will be on Thursday, June 15th at Grace Episcopal Church, 200 Highfield Lane, Nutley, at 11:30 am. Visitation will be at SW Brown Funeral Home at 10:00 am prior to the service. The interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield.
