Obituary for Maria Alvarez (Perez)

Loving Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother & Great-Grandmother

Maria Alvarez, 84 of Pompton Lakes, passed away Friday September 25, 2020. Born in Santa Marta, Cuba, Maria was the daughter of the late Rafael and Angelina (Portegaza) Perez, and lived in Nutley and Belleville prior to moving to Pomptain Lakes 6 years ago. She retired as a Library Supervisor for Chase Manhattan Bank in New York.
The beloved wife of the late Miguel Alvarez, Maria is survived by her children, Miguel Alvarez and his wife Kim, Maria Remuszka and her husband Daniel, and Christine Young and her husband Fred; her brothers, Roman Perez and Ramon Perez; sisters, Minerva Price, Maritza Baatham, Magda Torres, and Mirta Dias; 6 grandchildren, Melissa Grohotolsk, Marsha Alvarez-Stein, Jessica Conte, Daniel Remuszka, Michael Remuszka, and Bryan Young; and 6 great-grandchildren, Dylan, Ella, Zoe, Ava, Madison, and Madeline. Along with her husband and parents, Maria was predeceased by her brother Rafael Perez.


The funeral will be Tuesday September 29th at 9:30am from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, (www.swbrownandson.com), 267 Centre St., Nutley.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church in Nutley at 10:30am.

The interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.

Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Monday September 28th from 4-8pm.
