Obituary for Mel E. Fields

Mel E. Fields, 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, December 10, 2021.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Mel lived in Belleville, NJ most of his life until relocating to Monroe Township in 2019.

Mel was the son to the late Herman and Dora (Korman) Finkelstein. Mel was predeceased by his loving wife, Patricia R. (Higgins) Fields, and his sister Florence Indyke. He leaves behind his loving children, Jay Fields, and his wife Leigh; Robin Iuliucci, and her husband Dennis; Lauren Martinez, and her husband Mike; Erin Fields, and her husband Jeff Michalowski; Allison Healy, and her husband James, a brother Aaron Kaye and his wife Peggy, grandchildren Lindsay, Thomas, Amy, Danielle, Nicholas, Melissa, Vanessa, James ("Baby Jim") and Fiona Barbara and great grandchildren Emory, Devon, Madelyn and Riley.

Mel spent a lifetime captivating audiences (family, friends and strangers alike) on stage - whether by showcasing his awesome skills on the drums (he played in several bands) or putting on a mesmerizing magic performance. Friday nights were spent attending club meetings for the Society of American Magicians - which he served as President for a number of years. Sundays were spent in church, which was something Mel loved dearly, and he served as a Deacon there for many years as well. During the week, Mel excelled in his sales career, which spanned over 40 years - earning the annual top salesman award multiple times. For decades, Mel hosted annual shows for Veterans - bringing in musical, magical and comedic performers from all over the US. He lived a very fascinating life, meeting many interesting people along the way - and highly enjoyed sharing his stories with everyone around him. Mel's great sense of humor and charismatic personality will be missed by all who knew him.
