Obituary for Michael Politi

Michael Politi, 53, passed away March 30, 2021. Born in Jersey City, he spent most of his life living in Nutley where he attended Radcliffe Elementary School and Franklin Middle School. He was part of the Nutley High School class of 1985. In 1989, he graduated magna cum laude from the University of Delaware. He graduated with honors from Rutgers Law School in 1996. While at Rutgers, he was named the Hietman Memorial Scholar in 1994 for academic excellence and interest in corporate law, and was named the Saul Tischler Scholar in 1995, awarded to the top-ranked evening student. He was admitted to the Bar in both New Jersey and New York in 1996. Mike began his career as an economist at the Commodities Futures Trading Commission at One World Trade in New York. He attended law school at night and upon graduation he joined Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver and Jacobson in New York as a corporate associate. He later moved on to become the General Counsel at Loews Cineplex. Mike’s final work home was at DCIP in Rockaway, NJ where he was Executive Vice President until his retirement in 2020.

Mike was predeceased by his mother Maureen (Sommers) Politi, father-in-law Joseph Zeller, and brother-in-law and good friend Thomas Zeller. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years Tricia, his cherished children Emma and Eric, brother Steven and wife Nancy, his mother-in-law Pat Zeller, sister-in-law Mary Kunka and husband Matt, brothers-in-law Robert Zeller and wife Liz, Paul Zeller, sister-in-law Daysi Zeller, and his nieces and nephews: John, Christopher, Melany, Ali, Caroline, Katie, Julian and Sara. Michael is also survived by his uncle John Sommers and wife Susan, and cousins Jazz, Ryan and Kyle Sommers and their wives Sara, Amy and Kate and their children. Last, but not least, he leaves behind his beloved dog Apple.

Mike loved spending time with his family at home and on Long Beach Island. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching and attending any and all sporting events, especially the Yankees, Rangers, Knicks and Giants. He passed the love of sports onto his children and as a family visited baseball parks around the country. Before COVID-19, he could be found at any place that played live music (particularly The Great Notch) and had attended countless concerts over the course of his life, with the Grateful Dead topping the list. Most of all, he enjoyed watching movies on TCM or old Law and Orders with his wife, kids and dog.

There will be a memorial service at S.W. Brown’s Funeral Home in Nutley, NJ, on Saturday April 3 from 2-5.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mike’s name to Nutley Family Service Bureau (nutleyfamily.org).
