Obituary for Michelle E. Sammaro (Caporelli)

Autism Advocate and Selfless Mother to All

Michelle E. Sammaro, 60, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2019. Born in Irvington, the daughter of Anna (Lutz) Caporelli and the late Nicholas Caporelli, she was a lifelong resident of Nutley. She was the Special Education Coach of Franklin Elementary School in Kearny. Previously, she was a teacher with YCS Sawtelle Learning Center in Montclair. Michelle was a respected mentor to many teachers throughout her career.
Michelle earned her Masters in Special Education from New Jersey City University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Montclair State College. She was a member of the NJEA and a selfless supporter of Autism awareness.

A loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her beloved husband, James Sammaro; 3 children, James Joseph Sammaro, Danielle Lynn DePeri and her husband, Jeffrey Peter and Samantha Jo Gioffre and her husband, Anthony; 2 grandchildren, Johanah Ray DePeri and Vincent James Gioffre; her sister, SallyAnn Ruzzo and her brother, Nicholas Caporelli.


The funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St., Nutley.

The interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 1-4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Autism Speaks NJ, (www.autismspeaks.org/) would be preferred.
