Obituary for Moises Lugo Sr.

Moises Lugo, Sr., 70 of Newark, passed away on Sunday September 19, 2021. Born in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Alberto Lugo and Natividad Feliciano. Moises came to Newark in 1970 and was a machine operator and small business owner before retiring. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and played softball with the Newark softball leagues for many years. He also was a talented guitar player and enjoyed playing and singing traditional folk songs. Moises was social, easygoing and always cracking jokes. He touched the hearts of all those who knew him and will be deeply missed.

A devoted father and grandfather, he is survived by his children, Moises Lugo, Jr. and his wife, Johanna, Jacqueline Morgan and her husband, Michael, Jocelyn Lopez and her husband, Franklin and his loving grandchildren, Damaris, Natalie, Johamie, Matthew, Eliana, Aidan and Kaylee. Moises also leaves his brothers, Jose Alberto Lugo, Jorge Lugo, Damian Madera and his sister, Ana Delia Lugo Mendez, along with many nieces and nephews. Moises is also survived by his longtime girlfriend Delia Esther Alameda.

Funeral from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St. Nutley on Friday September 24 at 9 am. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Church, 172 Broadway, Newark at 10 am. Cremation will be private. Relatives and friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8 pm.
