Obituary for Paul B. Edwards

Retired Nutley Police Lieutenant

Paul B. Edwards, 60 of Belleville passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019. Born in Detroit, MI, the son of Eleanor (Barlick) Dickman the late James Edwards, he grew up in Paterson and lived in Nutley prior to moving to Belleville 35 years ago. A 1976 graduate of Paterson Catholic H. S., he earned a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from St. Francis College in 1980.
Upon his graduation from St. Francis, Paul began his career with the Harrisonburg Police Department in Virginia. He retired after 29 years of service from the Nutley Police Department as a Lieutenant, was a member of the PBA Local #33 in Nutley and the FOP Lodge #12 in Newark. Paul was a 10 year volunteer for the Nutley Police Department Motorcycle Run to benefit the Nutley Friends of Abused and Special Children and was also a member of the Belleville Knights of Columbus #94.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 35 year, Teresa (Avagliano) Edwards; his brother, Mark S. Edwards and his wife, Margie and 2 sisters-in-law, Lisa DeLuca and her husband, Charlie and Barbara Jo Deveney and her husband, Howard. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Douglas, Steven and Megan Edwards, Anya Schultz, Joseph and Stephanie Davies, Charlie DeLuca, Amber-Lynn Deveney and their spouses; 8 ½ grandnieces and grandnephews; his step-mom, Mary Shipe and her 4 children.

The funeral will be Monday, March 11, 2019 from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St., Nutley.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church in Nutley at 10:45 a.m.

The interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. and Monday from 9-10:15 a.m.

In May of 2012 Paul became a heart transplant recipient…"we would like to give special thanks to all of the medical staff that took exemplary care of Paul during his transplant journey from then until now…mere words cannot express the gratitude we have for your kindness and support over these many years." We would also like to extend our sincerest thanks to all of our family and friends who helped through the years.
