Obituary for Peter Rocco Carissimo

Peter Rocco Carissimo passed away on April 9th 2020. “Petey” was born on August 12th 1926 in Belleville, NJ to his loving parents, Mary DeNicola Carissimo and Domenico Carissimo. He grew up in a large, loving Italian neighborhood surrounded by close family and friends; he graduated Belleville High School in 1943 and got permission to join the Navy, though he was under age, so that he could serve his country in time of war. After the war he attended Trinity College and Newark College of Engineering; he earned trophies in boxing and wrestling and was an A+ math student (just ask his brother Ray.) It was while attending college that he met, fell in love with, and married his beloved wife, Geraldine Miller Carissimo, a nursing student at Passaic General. He was an incredibly faithful and affectionate husband and a loving, devoted father. And a very generous grandfather! He was employed at the Eastern Molding Company for over 40 years and enjoyed a good round of golf, glasses of wine with big dinners, enormous pool parties and family celebrations and was an incredibly avid reader. Peter Rocco Carissimo suffered the loss of his oldest grandson, Jeremy Peter Carissimo, his baby sister, Rita, his brother, Raymond, and his in-laws, Susie and Frank, but is survived by his two sisters, Angela Carissimo Cozzarelli and Mary Ann Carissimo. He is also survived by his wife of over seventy years, Geraldine Miller Carissimo; his six children: Dee Kaufmann and her spouse Bruce Kaufmann; Peg Rucinski and her spouse David Rucinski; Dominick Carissimo and his spouse, Shirley Carissimo; Michael Carissimo; Peter Rocco Carissimo Jr. and his spouse Janine Carissimo and Raymond Carissimo. Poppy is also survived by his eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He is now in a much better place holding his baby girl, Mary Ellen Carissimo.
We will all miss the one and only Poppy.

Interment at Glendale Cemetery was private.
There will be a funeral mass and celebration of Poppy's life at a future date.
