Obituary for Raymond J. Smith

Loving Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather & Great-Grandfather

Raymond J. Smith, 93 of Manchester, passed away Friday, September 11, 2020. Born in Nutley, Raymond was the son of the late George P. and Nellie (Huband) Smith. A proud U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII, Ray and his wife Peg resided in Nutley where he owned a service station and worked at a Ford dealership. He was an auto mechanic teacher for 25 years at Essex County Vocational School in Irvington, before retiring to Manchester. In retirement Ray enjoyed golf, bowling and vacations with family.
Ray was a member of the Nutley Masonic Lodge F&AM, and former member of N.V.E.&R.S. He was also past president of the Nutley Rotary and Leisure Knoll in Manchester.

Raymond is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret (Scheinler) Smith; his children, Pat and Loris Muzzatti and Bob and Beverly Smith; his grandchildren, Katie and Rob Swanson, Alair Muzzatti, Michael and Mallory Smith, Tina Smith, and Paige Muzzatti; and 3 great-grandchildren, Reagan, Riley, and Rebecca. Along with his parents, Raymond was predeceased by his brother, George Smith and his sister, Dorothy Jackson.


The funeral service will be on Saturday, September 19th from the Grace Episcopal Church, 200 Highfield Lane, Nutley, at 10am.

The interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Friday, September 18th from 2-4pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org/, would be appreciated.
