Obituary for Richard Ferruggia

Richard Ferruggia, 73 of Belleville, passed away on Saturday February 6, 2021. Born in Newark, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Eleanor (Raimo) Ferruggia. Richard came to Belleville more than 50 years ago and was a supervisor with the Garden State Parkway Authority before retiring. Richard is also the Deputy Chief of Staff for NJ Assemblyman Ralph Caputo of the 28th Legislative District. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War, he was the Ward 2 District 5 County Committee District Leader for Essex County Democrats, and he is the Commander-in-Chief of American Legion Post 299 in Belleville. Richard was also a member of the Optimist Club of Belleville, the Italian-American Club and was formerly active with Belleville Little League.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Helen (Trovato) Ferruggia, his loving children, Michelle Martin and husband, Chuck, Richard Ferrruggia and wife, Pamela, John McAloon and wife, Pilar, Stephanie Neri and husband, Anthony and his grandchildren, Casey and Carley Martin, Natalia Ferruggia, John, Gia and Sean McAloon and Anthony Neri.
He was also the husband, of the late Maryrose (Pellegrino) Ferruggia and brother of the late Gary Ferruggia.

Relatives and friends will be received for a walk-through visitation at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St. Nutley on Wednesday February 10 from 6-8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church in Nutley on Thursday at 9:30 am. Cremation will be private.
