Obituary for Rita R. Cerami

Loving Wife, Mother, Sister, and Nana

Rita R. Cerami, 90, of Bloomfield, formerly of Belleville, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Rita was the daughter of the late Angelo and Mary (Colasanti) Cerami. She retired as a receptionist for Essex County Board of Freeholder, Newark. Rita had two passions in life, her two granddaughters and singing. Her granddaughters Jessica and Nikki were the light of her life. She checked on them every night, up until she couldn’t use a phone anymore. Every memory they made; Nana was there right by their side. They were her total world.
Rita sang at an early age in church choir. She had the voice of angel. No matter where she was, if she was asked to sing a song, she would just start singing. Everyone wanted to hear her voice. Her favorite song was “Wind Beneath My Wings”. Later she sang at city nightclubs, lounges, elks affairs, and Biase’s. She was offered a career but married her loving husband, Carmen. Rita and Carmen were reigning King and Queen of Carnivale at Biase’s in Newark and were honored in Parade.
The beloved wife of the late Carmen Cerami, and dear mother of the late Gracie Cerami, Rita is survived by her daughter Renei Pignataro, her son-in-law Frank Pignataro, sister Barbara Difillipo, granddaughters Jessica, Nicole, Catherine, Dante, Frank and Christine, and her great-grandchildren Dante, Franco, Nadia, and Frankie, and many nieces and nephews.

The Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 11, 2023, at 9:30am at Holy Family Church, Nutley.
