Obituary for Robert De Bello, Sr.

Loving Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather & Great-Grandfather

Robert De Bello, Sr., a loving husband, devoted father, proud veteran, and retired Detective Sergeant, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at the age of 83 in Nutley, New Jersey. He was born in Passaic, New Jersey, to the late Louis and Susan (Vitolo) De Bello.

From an early age, Robert was raised in a Christian home, where his faith and love for the Lord were nurtured and evident throughout his life. He carried these values with him, serving as a shining example of compassion and kindness to those around him.

After completing his education, Robert proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army. He dedicated several years of his life to the military and was honorably discharged in 1962.

Following his military service, Robert embarked on a career with the Nutley Police Department. Throughout his years of service, he displayed unwavering dedication, integrity, and commitment, rising to the rank of Detective Sergeant before his well-deserved retirement.

Robert's most cherished role was that of a family man. He shared 59 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Julia "Joy" De Bello. Their union was filled with love, support, and countless cherished memories.

He is survived by his sons, Robert De Bello, Jr., and his wife Kelly, Louis J. De Bello and his wife Aggie, and Paul M. De Bello and his wife Lizbet. Robert also leaves behind his brother, Louis De Bello. He was a proud and doting grandfather to six grandchildren: Matthew J., Christian, Natalie, Diana, Andrew, and Eduardo. Additionally, Robert was overjoyed at the news of one great-grandchild, Mia, with another one on the way.

Robert De Bello, Sr., will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His unwavering faith, dedication to his country and community, and love for his family will forever serve as an inspiration to those whose lives he touched.

May his soul rest in peace, and may his family find solace in the memories they shared together.

Services were held privately.

Interment took place at Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield, NJ.
