Obituary for Robert T. Greengrove

Robert Greengrove, 91, passed away peacefully at his home in Nutley on April 13th surrounded by loved ones. Robert was born January 7th, 1930 in Newark, NJ to Lester & Dorothy (Rist) Greengrove and graduated from Nutley High School in 1948. As a youth he worked at the family business, Pro Lumber & Hardware, in Belleville, NJ. There he developed his love of mechanics and tinkering which led to a mechanical engineering degree from Steven’s Institute of Technology. He worked as a mechanical engineer for several years before delving into the fascinating world of computer programming. He ended his career as the IT Manager at Micro Stamping Corp in Bound Brook, NJ. Always interested in machines, especially trains, Robert spent his retirement creating an intricate model train layout that encompassed the entire basement of his home.
In 1953, he married Carol Birtwistle, the love of his life, and together they spent 67 incredible years raising a family and traveling the globe. They purchased a Victorian house in Nutley, which they renovated room by room over the next 60 years. For decades this welcoming home was a gathering place for family and friends. He also enjoyed spending many summers in Ortley Beach NJ with family.
Robert is survived by his wife Carol; his four daughters Cheryl (Lin), Robin, Wendy, and Amy (Bill) Gripp; and seven grandchildren Alexandria, Kyle, Ian, Kelsey, Erika, Cara, and Anna. He is also survived by his brother James, sister Patricia Brown, and many nieces and nephews.
Robert was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather He exemplified perseverance, and dedication to family. His jokes and advice are missed; He will live on forever in the memories of his friends and family.

Visitation will be held at S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home in Nutley (www.swbrownandson.com) on Saturday, April 17th from 4pm-7pm.

A memorial service will be held at Vincent Methodist Church 100 Vincent Place, Nutley, on Tuesday, April 20th at 11am in person and online (https://www.facebook.com/158738180842074/live/).
